An essential activity within the Council is the requirement to gather and process information about its staff and people who use our facilities in order to operate effectively. This will be done in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 (the Act), and other related government legislation.
The Council keeps personal information about you to:

- provide you with up to date information about these services and the most appropriate service for your needs.

The information we hold about you will only be used for the reason it was obtained. The personal information you provide may also be shared with other agencies involved in the provision of services to you, and between departments of the Council only where we are legally required to do so. The Council recognises its moral duty to ensure that all such data is handled properly and confidentially at all times, irrespective of whether it is held on paper or by electronic means. This covers the whole lifecycle, including:
- obtaining personal data
- storage and security of personal data
- use of personal data
- disposal / destruction of personal data.
We do not sell, share or transfer this information to third parties.
The Council also has a responsibility to ensure that data subjects have appropriate access, upon written request, to details regarding personal information relating to them and requests will be dealt with in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
To maintain your link with us we must retain your personal information for the duration of our relationship. However, if requested, a note will be placed on your file and your details will be removed once our transactions have been completed and the document retention time scale has elapsed.
